MAD SCIENTIST - P4/5
P4/5 really enjoyed a hands-on science investigation during Mad Scientist Day! The children learned all about the life and work of William Thomson (Lord Kelvin) and discovered how his ideas helped shape the way we measure temperature today.
We then put our learning into action by investigating how different materials act as insulators, helping to keep cold objects cold and warm objects warm. We also explored the meaning of a conductor and how some materials allow heat to pass through more easily than others.
The highlight of the lesson was a practical investigation where the children tested a range of materials to discover which are the best conductors of heat. They showed excellent teamwork and scientific skills, carefully using thermometers to take accurate temperature readings.
We also discussed the importance of carrying out a fair test and recorded our findings in a clear chart, which we analysed together at the end of the lesson. We all had a brilliant day full of curiosity, investigation and great scientific thinking—well done P4/5!
