DEMOCRACY WORKSHOP - PRIMARY 5-7

11th Jun 2026

Our Primary 5–7 pupils took part in an engaging and informative Democracy Workshop.

We were delighted to welcome Fiona, Education Officer for the Westminster Parliament in Northern Ireland, who spoke to the boys and girls about what democracy means and how we can recognise that we live in a democratic society. Fiona shared valuable insights into both the Northern Ireland Assembly and Westminster Parliament, explaining the roles of MPs and MLAs and how we can contact them about issues that matter to us.

As part of the workshop, the pupils also learned what it means to be an active citizen and how they can have a voice in their community. They explored how laws are made and the different stages they go through before being passed. This sparked lots of interest and thoughtful discussion, with pupils enthusiastically sharing their own ideas — including laws they would like to introduce themselves!

It was fantastic to see such great participation and curiosity from everyone involved.

A big thank you to Fiona for taking the time to visit us and deliver such an interesting and interactive session.
